Oral Surgery
What is Oral Surgery?
Oral surgery is the diagnosis and surgical treatment of diseases, injuries, and defects of the hard and soft tissues of the face, mouth, jaws, and teeth.
We use the least invasive treatment possible for a given dental issue, however from time to time, less invasive treatment options are insufficient and oral surgery may be required.
We may recommend oral surgery for a number of reasons, including impacted wisdom teeth, to replace a missing tooth, or to treat severe gum disease.
Dental Implants
A dental implant is a tiny titanium screw that acts like a natural tooth root. Placing dental implants is one part of the process our dentists follow when replacing a missing tooth and assisting in the restoration of your smile. When combined with a tooth replacement such as a crown or bridge, a dental implant looks and feels very similar to a natural tooth.
Bone Grafts
A bone graft is a procedure in which your dentist adds bone tissue to your jaw bone, strengthening it enough to support a dental implant. A sinus lift is a type of bone graft where your dentist adds bone material to the upper back jaw to increase the amount of bone in the sinus area, allowing for a dental implant to be placed.
Tooth Extractions
While saving a natural tooth is always the preferred outcome, there are some cases where it's simply not possible. Your dentist may need to remove a tooth if it has suffered severe damage as a result of decay, gum disease or injury.
Wisdom Tooth Removal
Wisdom teeth are the final set of molars that can erupt in the back corners of an adult mouth. If your wisdom teeth are causing problems for your oral health, your dentist may recommend removing them to help maintain your oral health.
Gum Grafts
Gum grafting may be necessary when your gum tissue decreases. The tissue is taken from the roof of the mouth and transplanted onto another area of the gums. A gum graft can assist in covering exposed tooth roots, repairing receding gums, and reducing symptoms like cavities, temperature sensitivity, and tooth loss.
Frenectomy
A frenectomy is a procedure thats eliminates a frenum, which is a small piece of tissue that connects your cheeks, tongue or lips to your gum area. Our dentists perform frenectomies for patients of all ages when the frenum is restricting function, commonly known as tongue-tied, lip-tied or cheek-tied.
